It is said that Positano was founded by some inhabitants of Paestum fleeing from a raid of the Saracens. The settlement of which we have some more news is of Roman origin, however, were found remains belonging to the Paleolithic period, showing the origin much earlier in the country. As often happened in the past, the myth, replacing the lack of hard data, tells us that Positano was founded by Poseidon, the God of the Sea, for the love of the nymph Pasitea.
